Upper-Primary Program: 3rd - 5th Grade

Our Upper-Primary Program is designed to meet the needs of children’s increasingly complex intellectual and social development. Blue School’s educational approach during 3rd-5th grades remains focused on identifying core curriculum content that is emergent and initiated by the children’s inquiries. Our approach provides children with greater opportunities for social-emotional learning, creativity, and learning through play and project work. The program builds on the foundation established in earlier years, deepening our students’ love of learning and encouraging it to branch out into new areas. We support their ability to think critically, solve problems, and use Blue School’s many resources in order to construct knowledge.

The children now take on even more responsibility for integrating their personal interests and learning styles into the curriculum. At the same time, their developing foundation of skills allows them to benefit from more structured and rigorous assignments. Our teachers strive to find the appropriate balance between academic engagement and academic challenge while providing an environment of enjoyable exploration and fun. This balance is a hallmark of all our programs and helps equip our students with the tools to foster their interests into true passions.

The Upper-Primary Program, similar to our other programs, attracts families who are excited about partnering with Blue School to create a connection between home life and school life that extends through the upper grades. We believe it is critical for parents to be integrally involved each step of the way. With this partnership, our program empowers children to find their unique voice, build confidence, and sustain a love and joy of learning so that they may reach their full potential.
